Senior Event

To celebrate World Book Day in true big, happy and booky ways, the entire school community at the Senior and Sixth Form took part in various celebrations, which were extra special this year as it is the 25th Anniversary of the event.

The day began with a whole school assembly, which saw each House adopt a different author – Lewis Carroll (Fisher House), Roald Dahl (More House) and J.K. Rowling (Newman House) – and dress up accordingly. There was a vast array of characters on show such as Matilda, the Mad Hatter, Dobby the House Elf and even a few Oompa Loompas. Students to teachers relished in being able to show their passion for literature. The costumes were outstanding and showed off our students’ eye for detail, creativity and talent! Our wonderful teaching staff also got into the spirit with lots of dressing up too!

After assembly, Lower School were asked to attend an event in the Main Hall where each House took part in a Carroll, Rowling and Dahl themed quiz! Questions ranged from a crossword, general knowledge and even a create your own caption! Having been given a still image of characters from each author, they were tasked, in teams, to come up with an inventive and funny caption, which led to many eruptions of laughter. The quiz exemplified our students’ passion for literature, as well as an opportunity for them to demonstrate their excellent skills in linking everything they have learnt so far.

Throughout the day there was also a whole-school scavenger hunt with clues scattered at various locations. The clues all produced an answer and when each answer was worked out, revealed a name of a book! It was a delight to see so many students rushing around, working collaboratively and using their problem-solving skills in this wonderful activity!

Winners will be announced on Monday for best dressed, the Lower School Quiz and Scavenger Hunt!

The day was a massive success which saw students utilise their ability to imagine, appreciate literature and explore different ways of thinking. Thank you to the English Faculty and our wonderful Librarian for arranging a wide range of exciting activities for the day.
