Senior trips

Our GCSE and A Level Sports Science students recently had the opportunity to visit the world-class facilities of the University of Bath, in order to find out more about the subject at degree level and what it is like to be a Sports Scientist student there.

In the morning, GCSE students completed some fitness tests and did a Strength & Conditioning session, whilst our A Level students were in a lab looking at Newton’s Laws in Biomechanics, and VO2 Max, lactic tolerance, and power output for Exercise Physiology.

In the afternoon, both groups joined together to take part in a Q&A session with four GB Skeleton Bob athletes, who gave a fantastic insight into their experience of the (frankly petrifying) sport. Questions asked included how they came in to start competing in skeleton, where their funding comes from, and what their nutritional and training requirements are. To finish the day, the group received a lecture on the benefits of studying Sports Science and also routes into the world of Sports Science.

This was a fantastic opportunity to for our students to get a better insight into competitive sport, as well as an introduction to the world of Higher Education.
