Senior Music

On Friday 3rd December, our Director of Music, Mrs Pope, took a group of St Edward’s Musicians to perform a lunchtime concert at Chapel Arts Cheltenham. The event, organised in association with Cheltenham Music Festival Society, was a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform to a live audience. The performance was part of the Chapel Arts series of Free Friday Lunchtime Concerts, where as well as young musician recitals and performances from schools, the programme also features other local musicians.

Individual instrumental performances were given by Mai W (Year 11) on Piano, and Dan L (Upper Sixth) on the Tuba, with Mr Higginson accompanying him on piano. There were solo vocal  performances by Issy P and Arabella N (both Year 10), as well as a vocal duet from Annabel S (Upper Sixth) and Georgia R (Year 11).

Mai also returned to the stage with a solo performance on the Shamisen, which is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument derived from the Chinese instrument sanxian and played with a plectrum called a bachi. The experience was an immense pleasure to the audience, and it was a fantastic way to introduce parts of Mai’s culture in the midst of the performance.

To finish, our choir delivered a beautiful rendition of Who is this Tiny Child? by Jay Castelli, bringing an end to what was an immensely enjoyable lunchtime for all who attended.

All students performed to a very high standard and our Head Girls, Mairead M (Upper Sixth), did a wonderful job as compere. The audience was most appreciative and congratulations go to all involved.
