Following on from the hugely successful visit of Olympian, Kelly Sotherton, on Wednesday 3rd November, we had pleasure in welcoming Ellie Olds to St Edward’s to speak to our STEPS Sport Students about the importance of nutrition to aid sport performance.

Ellie is a registered associate nutritionist with Holroyd Howe, the school’s catering company. She plays for Fulham FC Women in the Premier Division of the London and South East Women’s Regional League. She holds a First-Class Honours degree from Leeds Trinity University in Sport and Exercise Science, specialising in nutrition, and also happens to be a diabetic. Her experience and knowledge was invaluable to our students as she spoke in depth about how athletes can enhance performance through correct nutrition.

Nutrition is essential for supporting an athlete’s general health and their training needs. Having a suitable diet provides a person with enough energy and nutrients to meet the demands of training and exercise. In addition to helping a perform optimally, it also facilitates recovery.

Our STEPS students were very interested to hear from Ellie who spoke about the best ways for our students to fuel their bodies, as well as bringing attention to the impacts of disordered eating. A fantastic opportunity for our students and a great way to find out more about how we can all make better, healthier choices!
