Year 9 have been looking at ‘Don’t Ask Jack’ by Neil Gaiman in their recent Drama lessons.

The short horror story tells the tale of a group of children growing up in a large house and their relationship with an unusual toy they find in the attic.

The students have mind mapped the story, dissecting the writing and logging their emotional responses to the key parts of the plot. They then thought about how the story would translate to the stage, thinking about how sound effects, set design, props and lighting can all help to convey the mood and tension felt in different parts of the story.

This week, the students got creative at home to develop the visual world of the story by creating a storyboard demonstrating the different lighting effects they thought would be effective.
