Chris Morrow from Year 8, well known already to readers for his proficiency in the Tennis World, won the Scottish Junior Open last week!

Josh returns to School

Josh O’Connor returned to the Drama Studio on Monday to teach a workshop with a group of our current Yr 10 GCSE Drama students.

Language Activities - Year 9

The Year 9`s all took part in a European Lunch, organized by the Languages Department, on Wednesday in the Refectory.

Language Activities - Year 8

The Year 8`s all took part in a "Sandwich Surprises" competition in their French lessons.

Golf Improvers Competition

On Monday 21st June, six golfers from Year 11 and Sixth Form took part in the second half of the Golf Improvers competition at Shipton Oliffe Golf Club.

Glos Schools’ AA track and field Championships

Congratulations to the St. Edward Girl Athletes, Emily Pascoe and Vicki Harris, for being placed in their respective County events.

Boys Junior Tour to Normandy

54 Boys represented St Edward’s on the Junior Tour Normandy during the Half Term break. The trip lasted four days and included both a Rugby and Football fixture for each of the U12s, U13s and U14s.

My golf report

On the 14th of June we set off to Shipton Oliffe to play a golf tournament. After a swift registration we set off to the first to tee.

Corpus Christi Essay

Congratulations to Duncan Whiston (L6th) on his recent success in the Corpus Christi College (Cambridge) essay competition, where he received a 'highly commended', and an invitation to attend the College’s Open Day for a presentation of his certificate, and with the request that he let them know which subject he is thinking of applying for.

Readathon

The Readathon sponsored read, raising money for the CLIC Sargent and The Roald Dahl Foundation has again raised over £1,000, with money still coming in.

Public Speaking Competition

The second St Edward’s Public Speaking Competitions were held recently.

D of E Bronze Expedition Training: 15/16 May 10

A total of 29 pupils from Yr 9 turned up for the issue of tents, rations and obligatory kit check preceded the move to Tyddesley Wood (Pershore).

Year 8 Rugby League

Cheltenham Rugby League Festival held on 23rd April gave the Year 8 boys an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the two previous Year 8s, gain some extra rugby coaching and try out rugby league before they head off on their tour to Normandy at Half Term.

German Exchange

The German exchange party from the Carlbechstein Gymnasium in Berlin arrived on Thursday 18th March, keen to meet their hosts and enjoy the upcoming outings.

Spanish and French Concert for Yr 7

On the afternoon of Wednesday 17th March, the Yr 7s presented a Spanish and French concert in the Performance Hall. In the first half we saw the Spanish performers: Joe Parker, playing the maracas, Edward Hanley and Cameron Shand playing the Spanish guitar and Emily Lewis and Isabella Vivian singing.

Midsummer Magic in the Main Hall

The Upper School production - A Midsummer Night’s Dream - was presented in the Main Hall last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

St Edward’s Golfer goes International

Congratulations to Luis Arteaga from Yr 9 who has been selected to play in the European Championship 3-day Competition in Gullane, Scotland from 1st to 3rd of June.

Royal Opera House Fanfare Competition

The Royal Opera House have this year organised a competition for students who are 14 years old or under to compose a fanfare lasting 30 seconds.

Young Enterprise Success

This year’s Young Enterprise team, ‘Ed-it’, had success at the Trade Fair held at the Town Hall last week.

Latin and Greek Reading Competition

The top five pairs from the School Latin Reading Competition were soon back in action in the Gloucestershire finals, competing against teams from CLC and Malvern St James’ Schools.

Further Oxbridge Success

Following last summer's record Oxbridge success, another four St.Edward's students have just been offered places at Oxford or Cambridge.

English Speaking Union

The second round of the English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition took place on Tuesday evening in the prestigious surroundings of the Council Chamber at the Municipal Offices.

French Food Trip 2010

On Monday 5th April at 8:45 in the morning a bus full of excited children set off for France. After an hour and a half on the ferry from Dover, we arrived at Calais and met our guide for the week, Gordon.
