NETBALL

The U10A, U11A and U11B teams played in friendly matches against Richard Pate’s.

U10 A TEAM

On a very cold and windy afternoon, the U10 A team travelled to Richard Pate’s. Both teams were keen to get started and were very evenly matched as they started the first quarter. The ball was moved up and down the court as passes were intercepted and given away by both teams. KATIE REICHWALD was first to open the scoring with a super shot, and Richard Pate’s responded on their centre pass with a goal of their own. Both teams continued to try to string together a series of successful passes with Richard Pate’s managing to take control and score two more goals. KATIE REICHWALD quickly scored a second goal of her own. Richard Pate’s worked their centre pass into the ‘D’ but were unable to score, as ELLIE MIGLIACCIO got ready to take the backline pass. The team positioned themselves into a formation they had been learning in their games lessons. As ELLIE started with her pass, the girls timed their moves into space and the ball was passed accurately down the court and into our own ‘D’ to GEORGIE BAILLIE-HAMILTON, as GS, who successfully scored-to the delight of the team and to some very impressed parents watching on the sidelines!!

The second quarter started and the girls began to settle into the game and started to spread out making it easier to pass the ball. ROSE JONES made lots of excellent interceptions in the centre court and fed the ball around the ‘D’ supported by HARRIET HARDS who managed to find space and back up the shooters. who worked the ball nearer the post. KATIEREICHWALD continued her super shooting with another three goals, but LAUREN REICHWALD also showed her skills as she added another two goals to the score sheet, although Richard Pate’s were also working hard and their shooters had also scored a few goals.

Half time score was 8-4 to St. Edward’s.

With St. Edward’s feeling confident after the break they started the second half with some positive passing, KATIE TIMOTHY displayed some good dodging and passing quickly into our shooters, with KATIE again scoring and GEORGIE BAILLIE-HAMILTON adding another three-one of which was an amazing shot from just inside the ‘D’.

The final quarter was difficult as Richard Pate’s tightened up their marking and the girls had to work hard to keep possession, but both KATIE and LAUREN REICHWALD teamed up in the ‘D’ and added another goal each for St.Edward’s. At the other end of the court both ELLIE MIGLIACCIO and RHIANNON GRIFFIN defended solidly marking the ball and intercepting the rebounds and passing out to EMILY GRIFFIN who helped move the ball down the court with ROSE JONES, whose work rate throughout the game was tremendous. The girls displayed some excellent netball and team work. Well done girls!

The final score was 14-6 to St.Edward’s.

Team: KATIE REICHWALD, ELLIE MIGLIACCIO, GEORGIE BAILLIE-HAMILTON, ROSE JONES, HARRIET HARDS, LAUREN REICHWALD, KATIE TIMOTHY, EMILY GRIFFIN and RHIANNON GRIFFIN.

U11 A TEAM

The U11 A team got off to a good start and were passing the ball systematically down the court. They battled hard and great defending from LUCY ROPER and LOUISE LOVATT prevented Richard Pate’s from scoring a number of goals. Some good shooting from ELEANOR FINDLAY and SOPHIE WHITEHEAD put the score after the first quarter at 2-2. In the second half the team were not thinking clearly about who to pass the ball to and were not making decisions quickly enough. This meant that Richard Pate’s made a number of easy interceptions enabling them to go ahead. In the final quarter the girls were beginning to think more carefully and this enabled them to further their score. The final score was 11-7 to Richard Pate’s.

Squad: SOPHIE WHITEHEAD, ELEANOR FINDLAY, CHARLEEN DUNN, JEMMA ROBSON, LIBERTY WHITTAKER, LILY STEWART, LUCY ROPER, LOUISE LOVATT

Star Players: LOUISE LOVATT, LUCY ROPER

U11 B TEAM

The U11 B team battled hard and had numerous shots at goal, but they wouldn’t seem to go in! Some great defending from CHARLOTTE BURFOOT and MIA LANGSBURY prevented Richard Pate’s from scoring in the first half. St. Edward’s finally scored just before half time putting the score at 1-0. The girls played well and were unlucky to lose 2-1.

Squad: SOPHIE CASTELLANI, SOPHIE BAILLIE-HAMILTON, KIERA BARRY, ISSY MCGREGOR BRAVO, ANNABEL HOOPER, AMY MAIDEN, LIBBY CHERRY, MIA LANGSBURY CHARLOTTE BURFOOT.

U11 NETBALL TOURNAMENT

The U11 A team travelled to Stonar School in Whiltshire on Thursday to compete in the annual IAPS netball tournament.

The team performed well against some very strong opposition. They showed great determination and played some great netball. At times, their passing down the court was fluent and performed with accuracy.

v Kelly College = won 3-2

v Taunton School - = lost 5-2 (the eventual winners of our group)

v Wells Cathedral School = won 2-1

v Wycliffe = lost 5-2

v Cheltenham College = lost 3-2 – this was a well fought match and

St. Edward’s upped their game in the second half.

v Downs = lost 4-1.

This put us in 5 th position in our group. Well done to all those girls involved, it was a great experience and you tried hard throughout every match – a very tiring day!
